With tax day just over, it is not too early to start getting ready for next year. And by getting ready, I mean getting organized with regards to the paper pile. You can make doing your taxes much easier next year if you start out more organized this year. Whether you do your taxes yourself, or get professional help, the whole process can be that much easier when you take the time to organize your tax information now. A few tips on getting organized for next year’s tax season:
*Create a filing system. This doesn’t have to be complex. Simply set up some file folders in a hanging file for different items such as business purchases, charitable donation receipts, investment accounts, bills and other categories. This will help you find all documentation quickly and easily.
*Get personal finance software. Personal finance software can help you categorize expenses and gains. Then, at the end of the year, you can pull up a report that tells you how much you spent on business, and even how much you donated. The numbers are easy to get, and your filing system backs it up.
*Keep records starting now. Keep everything that you think you might need to do your taxes. Record your expenses and income, as well as other tax-related items. This will help you keep everything better organized, and make any possible tax audit much easier to get through.
