Buying a Home: The Saga Continues

I will be a very happy person when the home finally closes. We were hoping to close on the home yesterday afternoon. But alas, bureaucracy intervened. The mortgage loan funding is lined up. We had our final walk-through. They even got the deed in the right name (for some reason it wasn’t in the builder’s name, so it had to be changed). And the building inspector said the home was fit for occupation.

But the building inspector needed to create a certificate and send it to the builder’s real estate agent. He didn’t.

As a consequence, we couldn’t close today because the builder’s realtor couldn’t get the certificate to our realtor who couldn’t take it to the mortgage broker who couldn’t take it to the underwriters so that the proper and final mortgage documents could be prepared.

    Bummer.

But the good news is that it finally happened. My realtor called just before business closing time (and after my husband had already left for his class). Now, hopefully we close this morning. Two to three hours from how, I might be a homeowner.
