Military Service Men and Women in Danger of Foreclosure

Way to say, "Thank you!" this past Memorial Day

Right now, there are concerns that too many of our service men and women are in danger of foreclosure. Indeed, according to Bloomberg, towns that are home to a high proportion of US soldiers are seeing an increase in the rate of foreclosures that almost quadruples the national average.

This is not right. Many of the very people that risk their lives for us get paid very little and are now in danger of losing their homes. While it is true that service members are protected from foreclosures while they are on active duty, and for 90 days after, it is still a rather large burden.

Coming home from Iraq and then trying to deal with a devastating financial situation within three months? Um, right.

Perhaps it’s time for a groundswell of support for programs to help our military service men and women. An extension to that 90 days to 12 months or 18 months?

If anyone deserves help in this subprime mortgage crisis, it’s our brave men and women in the military.
