If you have some time, it might be interesting to listen to this episode of The American Life (hat tip: Bargaineering), about scenes from the recession. One of the most interesting parts of this episode is the description of what happens when the FDIC seizes bank.
It is interesting how much like SWAT the FDIC seizure process is. You wouldn’t normally think that the FDIC would go in like a crack police force, but it sort of sounds like that’s the case. And, of course, the stories of people who have lost their jobs and others who are affected.
The whole episode is great, and really offers interesting insight into the things that affect ordinary people during a recession. Other interesting tidbits: Dentists are seeing more cracked teeth, vasectomies on the rise and shark attacks are increasing.
