    Can You Afford the Costs of Home Ownership?

    When many people start trying to figure out if they can afford to buy a home, they go to an online mortgage calculator and figure out the monthly payment with interest. The main problem with this method is that other costs of home ownership are not included in this calculation. Other costs of home ownership include:

    * Taxes

    * HOA fees

    * Maintenance

    * Utilities

    * Homeowners Insurance (and possibly extra insurance such as flood or fire)

    Indeed, once you start thinking about the costs of home ownership, it becomes apparent that you may end up paying $200 to $800 (or more) than your mortgage plus interest payment. Before you decide to buy a home, you should thoroughly explore the possible costs, and consider the expenses that come with home ownership. You might try to practice living on your new budget before committing to a home mortgage loan when you may not be able to afford the total costs of home ownership.
